If you'd like to write for Velvet, then we're always happy to hear from you!
Due to the lack of lesbian-specific publications, we actively encourage submissions from self-identified lesbians, especially for poetry and fiction. However, Velvet is not exclusive and we sometimes commission and accept submissions from non-lesbians depending on content.
We accept submissions of poetry, short fiction (max 1,500 words) and non-fiction articles in keeping with Velvet's usual content.
Acceptance is at the editor's discretion and articles are subject to our usual proofreading and editing process.
We recommend e-mailing the editor prior to sending non-fiction to discuss content and length. We also encourage writers to read the magazine to gauge its style.
Unfortunately, we are not yet able to pay our contributors (Velvet is run entirely by volunteers and on a small budget), but you will receive a free copy of the issue containing your work.
If you wish to talk to us about a submission, then please click here to contact the editor.
